Foot/ankle

You may benefit from one or two nerve blocks for foot and angle surgery, namely a popliteal sciatic and/or adductor canal saphenous nerve block.

Click below to learn about these blocks.

The sciatic nerve block gives sensation to most of the foot and ankle.

The saphenous nerve gives sensation to a few areas of the foot and ankle.

For more extensive surgeries, we often insert and leave a small catheter to deliver local anesthetic over the next three days. On the third day, you can simply remove the catheter (it does not hurt!) and throw everything away!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call us and speak to the anesthesiologist on call.
